COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This is a 35 hour course that includes theoretical and practical instruction and 1 day of in class participation. The course is designed for **Registered Massage Therapists, Massage Practitioners, Nurses, Aetheticians, Aromatherapist, or other Natural Health Practitioners WITH body work experience. In this course, you will explore the History, Theory, Principals and Application of both Hot and Cold Stone Therapy and will learn how to perform a complete full body hot stone massage routine.  You will learn about the properties of the basalt stone, the benefits, precautions and contra-indications, how to use hot and cold stones and the effects of heat and cold on the body. You will learn how to heat, cool, care and cleanse your stones. Expanded applications include an introduction to Aromatherapy the uses of oils, their properties and safe use.  You will also learn how to best modified routines/treatments to accommodate for special groups of people. The course covers a review of health, safety and sanitation standards, best business practices, client consultations, assessments and session records and you will learn how to set up your treatment/therapy room to create a healing environment and prepare your clients to receive their treatments.  There is a 5 hour home study portion, to be completed the week before the scheduled class.

Full Certification is obtained by completing case studies, and written exam and practical exam (refer to certification details, below). **Registered Massage Therapists need only complete the IN-Class program and home study material (testing and case studies are not required, full certification is optional).

PREREQUISITE(S)

Must be 18 years or older and have working knowledge of anatomy and physiology, pathology and experience with body work, Swedish massage or other full body massage modalities.   

CLASS REQUIREMENTS

Portable massage table may be required for in class participation.

FEES $550 includes course handbook, 1 day in class training and participation certificate

EXAMS FEES: $100 payable prior to writing the exam.

REQUIREMENTS FOR FULL CERTIFICATION

HOT STONE MASSAGE THERAPY PRACTITIONER

1. 8 Hours Participation on 1 Day in class, theory and practical training

2. 1 Hour Written Exam worth 60% of the final grade.  The exam covers all materials included in the course manual. The format of the exam is multiple choice. The passing mark for written exam is 80%. 

3. 20 Hours 10 case studies conducted on non-paying clients.  Case Studies are worth 10% of final mark. Case Studies are to include a 1 page summary, summarizing your observations of all 10 case studies.

4. 2 Hour Practical Exam worth 30% of final mark. The passing mark for the practical exam is 80%. The practical exam can be done either in person with the instructor, by video/online presentation. In order to pass students must demonstrate proper use stones, placement and knowledge of the routine and steps taught in the course.    

5. 5 hours of Home Study

You have up to 6 months from the date of your in class course to complete written and practical exams and the case studies. A certificate in Hot Stone Therapy will be issued once the above work is completed.
