BRINGING WELLNESS TO YOUR DOOR STEP

What is Reflexology & how does it work?

Reflexology is a focused pressure technique, usually directed at the feet and hands. It is a safe and gentle therapy that is based on the premise that there are zones and reflexes on the body which correspond with and are relative to all parts, glands and organs of the entire body.

When the reflexes are stimulated through the Reflexology technique called “thumb walking”, the body’s natural energy works along the nervous system to clear any blockages in the corresponding zones. A reflexology session seems to break up deposits (felt as a sandy or gritty area under the skin) which may interfere with the natural flow of the body’s energy.

Manipulating specific reflexes removes stress, helps improve circulation  and activates a physiological change in the body. The body is brought into a balanced state with stress removed and circulation improved and returns to a state of homeostasis – “normal” state thus allowing the natural healing process to occur!

REFLEXOLOGY IS NOT MEANT TO REPLACE CONVENTIONAL MEDICINE

THIS IS AN ALTERATIVE HEALING ART THAT IS USED TO COMPLIMENT OTHER FORMS OF TREATMENT

What are some of the benefits?

Reflexology may also help you with:

Anxiety, Arthritis, Asthma, Back Pain, Chronic Pain, Constipation, Depression, Diabetes, Digestive Disorders, General Aches and Pains, Head Aches, High Blood Pressure, Hormonal Imbalances, Hot Flashes, Fatigue, Insomnia, Liver, Menopausal Symptoms, Migraines, Panic Attacks, Relaxation, Sciatica, Sinusitis and Sleep Disorders

Who is this treatment for?

Are there any cases (known as contraindications) where Reflexology is not appropriate?

There are very few cases in which reflexology is unable to help.  If you have a special need or any concerns always check with your Doctor prior to receiving any treatments and let us know if any of the following apply to you.

Reflexology may be able to alleviate pain and suffering caused by any of the above but the approval of your doctor will give you peace of mind before commencing with treatments.

Is Reflexology safe in pregnancy?

Yes it’s safe and beneficial during pregnancy. However you do need to wait until your 13th week when the placenta is fully established.

Does Reflexology hurt?

Reflexology does not hurt and should not hurt.  Your reflexologist uses their fingers to apply pressure to each reflex point.  The pressure will vary according to individual tolerance levels.

How often can I have this treatment?

General Guidelines:

Always allow 1-2 days between treatments.

What to expect during your treatments session?

First Session - The first treatment always includes a relaxing warm herbal or aromatherapy foot/hand bath, a consultation and a detailed health history questionnaire. The questionnaire allows us to establish a client profile and identify individual needs. Please allow up to 1.5 hours for your first session.

Subsequent Sessions – Includes a review of your health questionnaire, foot/hand cleanse and treatment. Session length is generally 45-60 minutes.

During ALL treatments you will be sitting in a comfortable chair or recliner (fully clothed). Your feet/hands will be wrapped with a towel to keep them warm.  Your reflexology session includes a foot/hand relaxation massage combined with foot/hand stretches and then each reflex point on your feet/hands is manipulated by applying finger and thumb pressure.

At the end of your treatment a special cream/oil will be massaged into your feet.  A treatment chart will also be completed and reviewed with you after each treatment session and home care suggestions will be provided to you.

Do I need to have a full Reflexology Treatment?

A complete treatment takes approximately 45 minutes to one hour.  This hour allows your reflexologist to manipulate each reflex point several times before proceeding to the next reflex point. To manipulate all reflex points equally a complete session is needed.

Modified treatments are available: 15 – 40 minute sessions and are most ideal for ON-Site & Corporate Services, people with special conditions or anyone who is already receiving any of our other treatments and would like to add a little extra boost to their sessions. Modified treatments may/or may not cover all reflexes.

What should I do before a treatment?

It’s a good idea not to eat within an hour of starting a treatment and you shouldn’t drink alcohol either but, other than that, there is nothing else to worry about.

How will I feel during my treatment?

Reflexology provides a unique experience for everyone and each person responds differently to the treatment. Most clients feel relaxed and fall asleep during their treatment.

How will I feel after my treatment?

Generally clients feel positive after a treatment.  Most clients will feel light and energized “like walking on air” with no worries!

Do I do anything special after my treatment?

Reflexology helps to eliminate toxins from the body and it is recommended to bathe in Epson salt after your session (some exceptions apply). It also helps to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated. Your Reflexologist will recommend your personal home care for you once your session is completed.

What results can I expect?

Reflexology balances the body and promotes self-healing. Most people feel the benefit both during and after treatment; however for more longstanding issues it may take more treatments. Reflexology promotes improvements to health by:
